Commercial layer chicken

Commercial layer chicken is a breed that has been selectively bred over many years to reach its highest possible egg production potential. It is typically larger than the traditional yard bird and is typically kept in cages, especially when living in large numbers. These birds are provided with special feed designed specifically for layers, as it contains important vitamins and minerals that help to promote healthy egg production. Layer chickens can produce an average of 200-300 eggs per year depending on age, breed and conditions under which it is kept. As well as being high producing, these chickens are also more disease tolerant and have great feed conversion rates compared to other breeds.
